Q. How do I receive my textbook voucher?
It is really important when you enrol that you enter your client code when prompted, or provide it to the enrolment advisor assisting you, to ensure that you receive your textbook voucher in the first instance. If the client code is not entered against your enrolment, we will not be aware of your corporate status.
Textbook vouchers are sent via email, along with the instructions on how to redeem them, about a week or two before the start of the study period. You will have six months to redeem your voucher.
Q. What is Smarthinking?
Smarthinking is an online tutoring service which gives you access to academic support from experienced online tutors, at any time of the day or night.
Smarthinking services include live tutoring, pre-scheduled tutoring sessions, academic question submission and draft essay reviews. This convenient support service is of particular advantage if you are new or returning to study, and can help you build confidence in your academic skills.
Q. How much is my study going to cost?
In relation to Open Universities Australia (OUA) the cost of your study will vary according to the number of units you take and the type of course you choose. Go to www.open.edu.au/future-students for a guide to getting started and financial assistance information. You can pay on a unit-by-unit basis each Study Period or Session, either upfront or by arranging a FEE-HELP loan through the Commonwealth Government. Australian citizens are able to borrow the full amount of their fees from the Commonwealth and pay this loan back through the tax system. For more information about FEE-HELP, visit www.studyassist.gov.au.
In relation to Open Training Institute (VET) courses, as a valued corporate client, Asciano employees and direct family members are entitled to a 20% discount on individual courses.
Q. Can I still study if I have been posted overseas?
In short, yes. OUA provides online education to all students regardless of their location, and is currently the only option available to Australians permanently living overseas wanting to access education with an Australian education provider. If you are an Australian citizen or permanent resident working overseas and studying through OUA, you will not be subjected to international student fees.
However, please note that there are residency conditions that will apply if you are looking to access FEE-HELP, the Commonwealth government loan scheme available to eligible students. For more information on FEE-HELP, please visit www.studyassist.gov.au.
